Questions about air quality testing
What does indoor air quality testing measure?+
A typical assessment records temperature, relative humidity and carbon dioxide on site, and analyses air samples for airborne mold spores. Particulate and volatile organic compound analysis can be added when the situation calls for it. The parameters are agreed before sampling rather than sold as a fixed package.
Will an air test prove there is mold in the building?+
It can show whether airborne spore levels indoors are elevated compared with an outdoor sample taken the same day, which is useful supporting evidence. It does not locate hidden growth or identify the moisture source, so sampling is normally paired with a physical inspection.
Do I need testing or an inspection first?+
If visible growth and an obvious moisture source are already present, an inspection may tell you everything needed to plan the work. Testing earns its place when it answers a question the inspection cannot, or when a result has to be documented for a landlord, employer or insurer.
Can you test for radon?+
Radon is measured differently. Health Canada recommends a long-term test of at least three months, ideally during the heating season, carried out under the Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program. Mention radon when booking and the appropriate route will be confirmed.
