No. Ontario licenses trades such as electrical and plumbing work, but mold remediation is not a licensed trade. There is no provincial registry to check. That is precisely why documented training, liability insurance, a written scope and completion paperwork carry so much weight when comparing contractors.

It means the company holds a credential from a private training body rather than a government licence. The certification is real, but it is issued by an industry organisation, not the province. Ask which body issued it, who on the crew holds it, and whether it is current — a certificate on a website is not the same as a certified technician on your job.

Compare scope, not price. A quote that names the affected areas, states what is removed versus treated, describes the containment, and identifies the moisture repair can be judged. A single figure with no scope cannot be compared to anything, and is usually the cheapest for a reason.

It is common and usually practical, but you are entitled to ask how the scope was determined and to see the reasoning. If you want full separation between assessment and the work, an independent inspection first is a legitimate choice — ASM will work from another party's assessment.
